Kingham Race History The race was first run in 1976 as a result of a request from the local church who wanted to encourage more punters into the local area to visit the lcoal church fete. It was organised by Chris Harvey with help from Bill Adcox, the one-time marathon great, and others in the village. In all over 40 runners attended that first run. Since then at times over 200 runners have taken part. Over the years the course has changed but at one time the 7.5 mile race was a registered race and the distance has been measured and verified. We hope next year to restart the verifcation process and make it an accredited race. The all-time race record is 37 mins 10 secs run by John Solly of Herne Hill Harriers in 1991. In comparison the winning time for 2004 was 42.54 by Michael Aldridge.
